More bookings

A few weeks ago, Eric & I spent a good 2 hours together, bonding over our computers - he on his one, and me on my one, both of us on our own couches!  We were both looking at accommodation options in San Diego.  Eric's aunt lives on the East Coast of the US - she is coming over to meet us in San Diego (woo hoo!) but although she is staying at the Youth Hostel, it is actually cheaper for our family to stay in motels in most cases.  So, look we did, through various portals.

I thought we'd booked a place, but when I went to find the booking details yesterday, and couldn't find them anywhere, Eric informed me we'd given up and simply gone to bed!  So, back to the drawing board last night.  Again, we sat on our individual couches, and had our own computers, and finally, after only 1 hr, we made a decision and, more importantly, made a booking!

Who knew deciding where we'll lay our heads for 6 nights could be such a drama!?!

Counting down to departure

So, today it is 7 weeks exactly till we (we being Eric, Karl, Robin and I) depart on our big family adventure - 5 weeks overseas, mostly in the USA, but also a few days in Tahiti on our way home (with my mum!).

We have our draft itinerary sorted (LA - San Diego - Grand Canyon - Las Vegas - Yosemite National Park - San Francisco - LA  then Tahiti), which is subject to change as we continue to read up about where we are going and so add or delete points of interest.  Some of our dates are now fixed in stone, as we have made accommodation bookings for some of the more popular places on our itinerary and also the longer-stay places (by longer-stay, I mean all of 4 or 5 nights, no more).  But, we are still flexible about some of the 1 or 2 night stays and also about what we'll see and do along the way and in the cities.

We've also got the car booked, so that is one more item on our to-do list that has been crossed off.

Next thing to do is look at tickets to the LA Lakers (the boys first choice) or one of the other teams, playing somewhere along our intended route.  Also, see later this month if I can get tickets for Eric to go to the taping of a show, such as The Big Bang Theory or Two and a Half Men or 2 Broke Girls (or I could go to a Dr Phil show - would Eric drive me there?!).  The Big Bang Theory seems to be incredibly popular, as all the shows for the 30 days in advance are all sold out, but we'll try for something.  Then, it'll be a matter of laughing loud enough so we can instantly say "That's me!" when we see it on TV!

It's exciting!  And it's getting here fast!
