Boston to South Yarmouth

Today we packed up and walked to the metro station.  Orange line inbound, switch to the Red line at Downtown Crossing, then to Silver line 1 at South Station, then on the Airport Shuttle to the car rental building.  Finally, in to a car.  When we left the apartment, it was not too cold, but quite murky.  By the time we hopped in the car, it was raining, and it kept raining on and off all the way.

We drove over to Harvard University and drove round there, just to say we had been there.  Then, south towards Cape Cod.  At Braintree, we headed off the main freeway and drove along the coast, so got to see a number of smaller towns and very quaint houses.  In Hingham, we drove past houses that were built in the late 1700s and early 1800s.  In Scituate, we happened upon several historic buildings, including the Lawson Tower (built in 1902, and containing a water room, a clock and tuned bells), and the Cudworth Farm buildings (the house was built in 1797 around the chimney of the original house).

We eventually ended up in Plymouth,  and after a light snack at Dunkin' Donuts, we drove past Plymouth Rock (the traditional site of the disembarkation of the Mayflower Pilgrims in 1620 - it even has 1620 carved into it!), a Grist Mill, a couple of old houses built a long time ago (the Richard Sparrow House was built in 1640 and is the oldest house in Plymouth),  and the last remaining house where Pilgrims actually lived, the Jabez Howland House, the oldest part of which was built in 1667.

From there, it was a straight run through to our accommodation in South Yarmouth.  We put our bags inside then headed off to Captain Parkers for dinner - Clam Chowder all round, plus a Captain Parker ale brewed by Samuel Adams for Eric and a Whales Tale ale for me.  It was all very tasty!

Back to the motel for a swim, a cuppa and bed.

Today was for the ducks and seagulls.
